New barrel has been fitted.
I finally got a chance to work on getting my new 50 cal GPH barrel set up on my GPR rifle. I quickly discovered that the original tang didn't quite fit the new barrel and the 54 barrel didn't fit the new tang. Solution, use the new tang and adjust the fit of the 54 barrel to it. It only took about 5 minutes to dress down the 54 to fit and now it is easy to swap the 2 barrels.
The tougher part was getting the 57GPR peep sight to fit the tang without rocking. The adapter wedge was not shaped to match the contour of the tang and was only touching in the middle. It took about 2 hours of careful filing and fitting to get the wedge shaped to where it was contacting along about 95% of the length. It now fits much tighter and far more securely than before.
Now I just have to wait for the range to thaw out so I can go see how she performs. Forecasts for the next 4 or 5 days look to be sunny so maybe by early next week I can go make some smoke.

RE: New barrel has been fitted.
I'm probably going to try some No Excuses first but I'm running low on those. I just recieved my shipment of 285gr Buffalo SSB's yesterday so I may give those a try also. I also have some White 400gr power punch conicals that didn't work in my other guns so Imay try some of those. For powder I will probably be using 777 or Pyro P. I do have a pound of 777 3F so I may use that instead of 2F just because I prefer the 3F in my side locks, it seems to give a more reliable ignition than the 2F. The biggest question is still weather the range will still be snowed in or not next week. The snow at the house is starting to melt but I still have 3' high snow drifts in the yard so its possible the range has similar issues. I'm working the next three nights so I'll have to wait and see what it looks like this weekend.
