Default Scoped the old Rem 700

I bought a Rem 700 24" blued ML years ago. For some reason I never put a scope on it until this past week. I put a Luepold 2 1/2 x 8 Vari x 3 on it. I took it to the range and WOW. That sucker may be the most accurate ML I have. I spent most of the time with the Omega because I still have until the end of Januaery to hunt down in Alabama and I plan on using the Omega. I shot 9 times at 50 Yds just to see how it would shoot. 100 gr T7 and XTP 250 gr and they stacked in there pretty good. I still have the # 11 caps as primers. It seems that I read that the Cabelo's 209 conversion was cleaner than the Rem kit. Anybody familiar with this setup.

I have had several 700 mls and all were very good shooters. As far as the conversion the cabelas 209 kit is more reliable from my experience due to the nipple designand spring supplied. I had a few buddies who had nothing but headaches with rem 209 kit, hang or mis fires were common. More blow back as well.If you deciede to change get the cabelas 209 kit, for sure.

Put a protector on that fine scope and forget the 209s - unless you have a lot of misfires (in which case your bolt is probably the culprit).

UC is right - get something to protect the under side of the scope... I make weather shrouds out of 20 guage shot gun hulls...

Do u cut the 20 ga hull? Exactly how do u put it on there and get it to stay. I just may stay with the# 11's.

If you cut the hull just above the brass, it is the thickest there, it will slide over the end of the bolt where the Remington weather shroud fits. then you cut it length and drill a gas hole in the side... Do you have a Remington weather shroud? you can use it for a pattern. Let me know I have got 6/10 of these 20 guage shrouds made up already....

Ok I've seen your 20ga, shroud in post before and you also send me pictures and instructions to make them. My question is> If you have the Remington shroud that came with the rifle why the shot gun hull one?

Thanks sabotloader. I can tell you love smokers. I am close to going ahead and passing my CF rifles on to my boys and grandsons. I love the thrill of ONE shot!! I started my boys out with rifles and letting the have only one round in the gun. Both of them are very good shots
