If so, what is it? (I know this is an opinion question)

The best projectile is the one most accurate in your rifle that produces the kind of results your hunting situation requires. That could be a roundball, conical pure lead, powerbelts, or sabot. It all depends on your rifle, your hunting situation, and what load YOU have confidence in.

Cayugad said it. Whatever works best in your gun and performs the best. I like 300 grain XTP's for my TC's. I think just about every bullet is capable of killing a deer. It's all in placing the shot and having confidence in the setup. Find what shoots best in your gun and it will more than likely perform well on game in my opinion. I also prefer heavier bullets for deer. I shoot mostly 300 grains. The heavier ones seem to group better from my gun and are not affected as much by heavy bone and stuff.
That's my two cents. Good luck.
