Which Sabot for a 10mm bullet in a .50 caliber bore?
What size sabot would be needed with a 10mm bullet that would be used in a 50 caliber Knight chamber? Just curious what size plastic sabot would I need to get with the .40 caliber bullet? Roskoe listed that as one of three bullets that he has had great results with. I am thinking that the bullet would still need to fit snugly into the sabot. Do they make a special sabot that will hold a .40 caliber bullet into a .50 caliber sabot? If not what method do you need to shoot this round? Possibly a patch?

yes, MMP makes a BLUE in color sabot for the 10mm or .40 caliber. I shoot the 200 grain Shockwaves and the 200 grain Hornady XTP with excellent results. Out of my Knight I shoot them with 110 gr of Triple Se7en. No idea how fast they are going but they sure have a good thump down range in the steel bullet trap.

Thanks Cayugad,
Have you tried them out yet on deer? Roskoe said they are a pretty decent hunting round. I thought that I might get some of those also to try out. I need to order my sabots from the MMP Company so I think that I will get some of those blue also with the order.

Well you said a Knight so Iwill ignore the chamber bit only cartridge guns have chambers.
A 50/ 40 blur MMP sabot is what most of us use.

Scroll down to the HPH group look at the blue one in 50 cal. this is where we get them.
with 150 gr pyrodex and a 200gr XTP I normally get 1 inch groups if I dont pull one. Lee

I have not tried them on deer. Actually the past couple years the deer have been few and far between. Six years ago, I could have shot deer were plentiful, but now with the additional numbers of timber wolves, and the fact the DNR slaughtered the doe herd, we now have to really work just to see a deer. If you look close that that picture you will see the purple cabbage all over the place. It was on a wood stand sitting in the trap when I hit it with a 200 grain XTP. I never seen anything explode like that. Cabbage is actually a very solid dense vegetable. I really expected a hole. Not disintegration of the head. That was shooting 110 grains of Triple Se7en 2f under that 200 grain XTP. I was sighting in for a hunt later that afternoon and wanted to take an open sighted rifle... I have not used them but with the accuracy they have, and the display of power they show, I would not hesitate. Also I had read posts from others that used them with excellent results (on another forum).

Thanks for that picture Cayugad,
Man! That really did a job on that cabbage. I am going to give some of those a try. I didn't realize that the deer were not so plentiful in WI anymore. I used to have a meat delivery route on Highway 8 through WI & the U.P. I had never seen so many deer in my life as that run across there at night. It was nothing to see 30-40 deer on the road at one time, made driving very interesting. Hopefully they are just going through a cycle or something. We used to have some pretty tough hunting here during the 70's & early 80's. It was bucks only and the antler had to be a certain size. It was close to impossible to see the antler in the woods and still get a shot off. They seem to finally be coming back, I was thinking probably due to the lack of Winters here anymore, possibly.

I shoot them also but I only shoot the XTP variety - to cheap to buy the Shockwaves/SST model.
I shoot them from White with 110 grains of T7-2f and chrono them at 2275fps.... they are screamers even down range... I will include a ballistic chart that I made for friend that shoots Shockwaves with 150 grains of T7 pelletshe is getting 2450fps...(screaming)
I have seen two posts on this forum from people who did use them this season to harvest... they were using the 10mm XTP variety and reported really good results with major damage and pass-throughs...

RE: Which Sabot for a 10mm bullet in a .50 caliber chamber?
Thanks again SabotLoade,
Now that Christmas is over I can finally start to order in some supplies. I am going to order the MMp sabots direct and as long as I am at it I am going to try some of those blue sabots.
If the maximum likely range for deer would be usually 50-75 yards in heavy woods type cover. Would it be best to stick with the .45 caliber Gold Dots in a 250 grain(?) or the 40 caliber XTP's? I highly doubt that I would ever have much of an opportunity for a over 75 yard shot where we hunt.

The easy answer for me is the 250/300 Gold Dots for the range you are suggesting... only because right now I do not have a definitive answer on the 200's. I just have not done enough shooting with them myself. I consider them a great varmint bullet from a 50 with the capabilities of being a great whitetail shooter - I just do not know.... But they are a ball of fire to shoot.
One last point the 200's could/can probably be easily deflected. So in my mind the are an open field/clearcut type bullet...
