Lyman Trade Rifle - Flintlock

RE: Lyman Trade Rifle - Flintlock
I own and hunt with a .54 caliber Lyman Trade Rifle Flintlock. I would strongly suggest the .54 caliber since you will probably be shooting roundball. I shoot 90 grains of Goex 2f and a .530 patched roundball out of mine and it will clean house on a a deer.
The Lyman Trade Rifle is very well balanced. If just seems to fit excellent. The lock is very high quality and very fast. It is made by Investarms. In fact you will get one of their manuals with the rifle as well as Lymans. Investarms are the same makers of the Cabela's Hawkins and carbines as well.
With a sharp flint, mine will shoot as fast as most any cap lock. I use 4f & 3f as a pan powder. The overall fit to finsh of barrel and hardware is very good. They could do a little better with stock finish, but I waxed mine and it shines now and is water resistant, so all is good. The wooden ramrod works fine, but I am changing that out to a Cain's super rod in the near future. These Super Rods are excellent.
My Trade rifle shoots roundball excellent, maxi ball very good, 405 grain Powerbelts excellent, and I will be testing some sabots out of it in the very near future. For the money it is an excellent rifle. I would recommend one to anyone looking for a good flintlock. Just make sure you check the Thimble Rib screws. Mine were loose andI lost them on the range. I called Lyman and they mailed me eight of the for free to replace the ones I lost.

Thanks! I went there after reading the posts from Wimuzzleman's thread. Seem like great prices... low shipping costs. Lord willing, sometime in January, I'll be the proud owner of a .54 cal flint. I'm pumped!

I always like the TRADE RIFLE they must be good shooters, ask yourself the last time you seen one for sale used??
I did at one time have the GPR which shot well but them 32" barrels are a litttle to front heavy ,think the tade barrel lenght is more like mt t/c hawkens,54 cal. is the way to fly and with the larger hole in the barrel make the gun a little lighter also.
