Good rifle from Winchester?
I am in the market to spend not a lot of money on a good rifle. I found this one on sale at Cabela's. I like the price. It'd be for mulies. Is it decent?

Yes it's decent..... but
But these Omegasbeloware above decent - they're very good. Betterquality - better warranty - better resale value - better accuracy.Check out the one for $251 and the laminated wood/stainless for $321.

Most any 50cal or larger will work for elk, even moose. The question is, at what range you want to shoot them?
The Apex is a very nice rifle, especially at that price new. The one I bought my son shoots under 3" at 200 yards with 130gr of Pyro pellets and a 250gr ShockWave. Sighted in 2" high at 100 puts it about 3" down at 200. And this is the first load I tried so It should do better with a little tweeking.
What I would suggest is go to a local dealer and try each of the models your interested in on for size. Find one that fits best and you will be happier than just buying sight unseen.
Good luck and ask any questions you have, there's plenty of knowledge and opinions around here.

Both the winchester apex and x-150 and high quality muzzleloaders. I own an x-150 and have dropped 2 mule deer from over 140 yards and a do from just slightly over 90 yards. Seeing how you are from colorado, you can not use sabots. The thing with the TC omega is they were built for shooting mainly sabots and generally dont shoot conicals well. This doesnt apply to all the omgeas but there are most of the omegas refuse to shoot a conical well. Now if you bought that winchester apex, a good load would be around 90-100 grains pyrodex RS with either the 348 grain powerbelt or the 385 grain great plains bullet. I was going to buy the apex untill my funds got cut short. I'll for sure pick one up next year. You can buy the stainless steel barrel/ camo stock for $230 at cabelas which is a steal. What part of colorado are you from? Its amazing that people from CO are finding this place lol.

I recently purchased an Apex. I am totally pleased with it. It fits well, shoots great and is easy to clean. It holds sub 1 inch groups at 1" groups at 100 yards, with really cheap bullets and pellets. I expect this to tighten up with a better bullet and lose powder. As far as stopping power, I took a 100 pound deer with it yesterday evening, in the pouring rain and wind. Very effective at 90 yards. I am extremely impressed, are there better out there? I am sure there are, but for the money I honestly don't think you can beat it.
