It's nice to hear at least a few shooters like the Remington. It seems over the past 5yrs all i've gotten was bad news about it. I like the looks and the over all feel of the rifle. I just wasn't happy with the groups it shot. It sounds like with the advice of sabotshooter as well as yourself and others I should be able get this rifleshooting acceptable groups, as long as I do my part and listen to what you guys have to say. What kind of groups were you getting with your 54 cal before you switched over to the conversion kit? Iwas also wondering, does the 209 help with hunting in wet weather? I would assume so. I think I'll order the 209 kit from cabala's this weekend along with the JB compound. I've got around 400.00 in already with the scope, mounts, sling and case so what the heck. Just curious, what there going one is going for on in the used rifle market?

You will like the 209 kit - especially in the weater and the cold weather. I make weather shrouds from 20 guage shot gun shells to add to the weather protection and to protect the case.

I also found one of my old targets from my 700MLS - 24" barrel.

I do not know if you have any problems with your breech plug but I am including a pic how I wrap my plugs... wrapping them over the nose then patting the excess down is very important...

I would like to say there are ther things that can cause the grouping problems at 100 - in fact if I were you do not even worry about a 100 until you get GREAT groups at 50...

One other thing that cause some grouping problems is the barrel channel in the stock. Some time just for the heck of it take the stock off and run your finger along the channel on both sides to see if you feel any lumps or bumps. My Rems are not free floating barrels - they lie snugly in the channel - theoretically as the barrel heats it pushes equally against the the stock so accurracy remains constant - but if you are getting unequal pressure you will be getting poorer groups.

I assume you have already made sure all of your scope components are good and everything is tight especially the base(s).

Good luck - keep us posted...

My 54 before the 209 switch was shooting 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yd's. 100 gr. T7 451dia. XTP red MMP sabot. As I said I haven't had a chance to zero it in with the 209 kit. The 209 kit did change how it shot how ever.
But I wanted to work up a load for my 50 which I did.

This is50yd targets with my 50 off a rest. This was two sessions.

This is what I found intresting. notice how shots 1 & 2 are then after the 4 shot I swabed the barrel so notice the shots 5 & 6.
http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=1775049

So I found that swabing at least ever other shot tighened up the groups.
http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=1777291

[]I did try 90gr. of T7 and the groups opened up. Del at MMP sabots told me not to try to push the old green sabots hard though too.

Thanks for all you've done. Sorry but I couldn't pick up your pics on the 54 caltargets. The prices on the Remingtons proved they are worth working with so i'mordering the conversion kit tonite. Sabotloader talked about taking the barrel down to raw metal with a good solvent before using the JB compound I was wondering what you guys use as a solvent. I'm from the old school and use the hot soapy water trick or Butchs bore shine with a coating of Ballistol to keep it protected from rusting over. I deal mostly with Blackpowder and patch round balls. Sound like I might need something else to cut the residue from the Remington although it looks like the day I bought it to the naked eye. Thanks again.

I swab between shots with a damp alky patch both sides and followed with two dry ones both sides. Back in my room I clean the bore real good with Hoppes #9 like I have with the center fires. I clean the bp and nipple by soaking them in #9 while taking the bolt apart (simple and fast with the tool) I wipe the bolt and fireing pin clean with #9 and lube it with remington dri lube. Had a miss fire once because of a lube that froze the fireing pin on a center fire. If I am going to shoot again soon I just leave it like that, If to be stored for a while I run a damp patch with 3 in1 oil down the bore.

[:@]Pictures did post on the other threads I left a link to rather than the pictures.
