What groups do you shoot and what's your max range?
I was wondering what kind of groups you guys can shoot with your muzzleloader. Also what is your maximum range that you'll shoot deer at? Do you have open sights or a scope? I'd like to know the gun too. I can shoot like4 inch groups at 100 yards with open sights. I have a plunger style TC woods Rifle and am very out of practice. Thanks for the posts everyone, it is appreciated as usual.

With scoped inline rifles, I can shoot some very impressive groups at 100 yards. Because of where I hunt, sight my scopes in at 70 yards normally, all but the Black Diamond XR which I sight in for field hunting. I can shoot an easy two inch group most times unlessI get a flier, and I have on a couple occasions, touched all shots. With iron sites I am in the same boat as most. I can shoot only as well as I see. Also the kind of sights make a big difference. I shoot an average of 4 inches at 100 yards. I've shot lots worse and ONCE I shot such an incredible inch +group with open sights, I was shocked. Tried to duplicate it, and shot a three inch group. That was with my .58 caliber roundball rifle.

The two that i use are sighted in forfor 100 yards.Hard to tell about the Magnum Hunter that i loan out: Used to be sighted for 300 grain XTP at 100 yards. Got to check it again.
Can usually geta three shot group of2.5 to3.5 inches. Once in a great while something goes right and i get a 1.5 incher. Both guns shoot better than i can. Both are scoped.
Shooting close, small neat groups is a relative thing. Thebest deer killer that i know shoots a three shot group at 100 yards each year to check his zero. Saw him do it this year. He shotabout a six inch group with his White. Called it good enoughand a few days later killed a 170 class buck deer. He does this all the time. He is a fantastic hunter and that makes the difference.

With my scoped inlines I typically shoot 2" or less at 100 yards, some loads are less than an inch. Last week I was checking some loads and shot a 3" group with some 250 Shockwaves and 100gr of 777 loose at 200 yards. I don't shoot open sights much anymore, I need to practice some more in the off season. 3" to 4" is good for me at 100 yards with open sights. I recently bought a Lyman GPR and have a peep on it and hope to start developing my non-magnified shooting skills again.

Haven't shot open sights in a long time probably couldn't hit the backboard at 100yds.But with a scope it works a lot different,Did have an encore untill I let one of my brothers have it this year and it shot a lot of one holers @100 yds and sometimes less than 2 in at 200,the farthest I took a deer with it was 200 yds.
My savage has shot many one hole groups at 100 and some at 200 and some great groups at 300,the farthest deer was 234 yds so far.Shot one this year at 170 yds and 230yds.

I shoot an average group size of 1.3 @ 100yd buy my records I sight in at 2 inches high @ 100yds my average distance for this year for the 7 deer ihave harvested so far was 22 yds.
I believe in exact placement of the shot;of the7 a 6 point buck went the fartherest and that was 39 yards by lasar range finder. I am 70 years old and I had to quite using open sights about 5 years ago. Lee

I have a Ultimate, Shot a Caribou at 325yds last year. Muzzy energy is there for 500 . I average 5" at 400. Buddy shota nice 8 this year at 246 with his. Its all what you know what your gun will do and that you feel comfortable doing it.

I'm a lousy shot; around 4 or 5 inches at a hundred. I usually shoot sight in at 50 or 75 yards; though last time I shot a group that was about 2" at 75 yards, and I impressed myself.

On a great day I'm just over an inch at 100 yards. When I go to the range to shoot and I don't take my time I'm probably closer to 1.5" to as much as 2". This is with a scope and sand bags. I rarely have fliers.
At 25 yards with iron sights I'm about 2" and at 50 yards I probably over 3".
I've never mastered Iron sights.
I shoot a knight master hunter II.
