RE: Elk load ???
If your shot placement is good, I would still be more comfortable if that Shockwave was the bonded version. For the same price, the 300 gr. Bonded Shockwave would improve your elk-penetration odds even-more.
Same with your 100 grain powder choice. Make that loose 777 powder & your bullet energy level rises roughly 15% versus pellet-power.

Where Elk are concerned bigger is always better. In a sabot I would not shoot anything lighter than 300 grains. Personally I like to shoot conicals. In 50 cal 460 to 500 grain works for me powered by 95 grains of T7 ffg. Never had a big conical fail to fully penatrate an elk.

Awell placed shot from a .50 caliber rifle shooting a 260 to 300 grain pistol bullet in a sabot in front of a 100 to 120 grain powder charge will kill any elk on earth. A 385 to 480 grain conical in a .50 or .54 with a 100 to 120 grain powder charge will also kill very effectively. A 525 to 556 grain conical in a .58 with a powder charge of 70 to 100 grains will hammer the largest elk.

RE: Elk load ???
I tried the 250 Shockwave (not bonded) last year and it shot clear through the chest of a large cow elk at about 150 yards. Charge was 130 grains of Pyrodex pellets. Surprised me a little. My normal New Mexico load, with the 300 Shockwave, did not come out the off shoulder of a large bull shot in the chest during the 2004 season. I haven't tried the new bonded Shockwaves. They should be great for shoulder shots on large game but, to be honest, Iam completely satisfied with the regular Shockwaves at this point.

RE: Elk load ???
The load I mentioned groups well for me at 100 yards, guess i will have to try some other combinations. I was thinking of uping the charge but don't want to lose accuracy. Thanks all who responded.
