RE: Powerbelt Effectiveness
I havn't had the opportunity to use powerbelts on an animal yet but a 50 cal hole all the way through an animal isn't too bad. Remember that cape buffalo and elephants are shot with 38 to 50 cal solids that don't expand either. If it will work on thoes two don't worry about deer.

RE: Powerbelt Effectiveness
I think people are expecting way too much out of muzzleloaders these days. They will never be as devistating as 3000fps 130 grain bullet due to the hydroshock. I would be damn happy to get a pass thru on a shoulder shot with a powerbelt.

I haven't used the powerbelts out of my knight....but I did have similar results with the knight (unjacketed) bullets. Excellent accuracy, but very little if any expansion. Basically exactly the same size hole in and out. I had more than one deer that I had to follow on very little blood even with both holes. I have since switched to jacketed knight bullets. Same great accuracy, better expansion.

Jim,
What was the distance on your shot??
What I've seen & a lot of what I've read seems to indicate that close shots (under 50yds) are the worst at not expanding.
"Every moving thing that liveth, I give unto you as meat" (Gen 9:3)
Trust God..........but keep your powder dry!

RE: Powerbelt Effectiveness
I have shoot the power-belts for the last 3 years, great results. exit holes the size of tennis balls.took 5 bucks with them, my wife took two hogs this year with them, one 250lbs. one 114lbs. they both dropped in there tracks.I have only had one run any distance 50 yards.
20 to 25 yards after a shot is a great shoot to me.I call a long distance 100yards.if both front sholders are broken with ans exit hole,I would be happy.
Although I personally don't shoot through the shoulder. I shoot through the ribs,so my deer or whatever game it is,is going to run a longer distance.
myslef and my wife shoot 225 grain hollow point power-belts with pyrodex pellets. me 150 grains , her 100 grains.
that is just my 2 cents,there are 98 more. <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>
I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest
remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.
