Default RE: Powerbelt Effectiveness

I shot a good size buck (he was all I could do to load myself in the pickup) a few weeks ago with a 348 gr. copper- clad at about 30 yards. It didn't exit (under the skin , opposite side, thrugh a rib front side) and was pretty much broke off above the bottom of the hollow point. I could see blood pouring out the entry hole when he started a 20-25 yard run. i'd say they work pretty well.

I shot an 8 pointer from my stand last week with 100 grains powder and 245 gr PB Hollowpoint. Bullet passed thru base of neck and he never moved afterwards. But it was 40 feet away so there certainly was no expansion to speak of. Maybe I'll get one farther away next time.....

Last year I used one of the PTX aeropoints (small 245gr also I believe) all copper sabot and shot one at 120 yds - bullett entered front shoulder at angle and mushroomed intact ripping through heart/lung and stopped just inside the hide on the opposite rear hindquarter. That bullett had devistating proerties. Organs exploded. Deer spun around several times, but no running.

I use the 300gr. Hornady XTP jacketed hollowpoints with 100gr. of powder. The gun is a Knight MK-85. I have found these bullets to do great tissue damage which gives me good blood trails.

I have shot the powerbelt this year in my Encore .45 cal. They are 195 gr. sitting on two 50 gr. pyrodex pellets. I shot a doe and hit in her in the top of the shoulder and it dropped her like a rock, she was dead in seconds.

I used 250 grain power points with 90 grains of powder last year. I shot a little buck at 20 yards right behind the shoulder, he hit the ground flat on his side, kicked, then got back up and ran out of sight without a drop of blood on the ground or any hair or anything.
This year I swiched to the 380 grain buffalo bullets with 110 grains of powder. Shot a doe broadside at 80 yards, popped the heart wide open, she ran about 100 yards with a 3 foot wide blood trail. one of the best blood trails I've ever had. The bullets are extreamly hard to load, but they are very accurate and work great in my 50 cal. sidelock.
