CVA Trapper 12 guage.. Load tips please?
Hi everyone! This is my first post on this forum, but have been a guest awhile. Thanks for everything I have learned so far... Hopefully I can pitch inwith some of my experience in the future..
I recently inherited a CVA Trapper 12 gauge (probably made in 92' or so from a family member and was wanting to take up the sport of muzzleloading for my favorite game bird... The wild turkey! It came with the three basic choke tubes (IC, M, F). I have a bag of chilled lead #5 shot, APP ffg, and caps. What are some load combinations that work for you guys? Shot cup or no? Hevi shot or no? There are so many types of shot cups available along with different wads and over shot card/wads to choose from> Does any 12 gauge shot cup work with a 12 gauge muzzleloader? I'm not going to put a bead on a gobbler till my gun cankill ethically on paper...Thanks in advance for your tips and feedback..

I really do not have any loads to offer you as I have no experience with your shotgun. In my smoothbore I load 80 grains of Goex 2f and 100 grains of #6 shot. Granted this is with the over the powder card and the fiber wad and over the shot card. Here is some information that might help you when you want to throw shot.
POWDER MEASURE SETTINGS TO THROW OUNCES OF BIRD SHOT:
50 grain setting = 3/4 ounce of shot
60 grain setting = 7/8 ounce of shot
70 grain setting = 1 once of shot
80 grain setting = 1 1/8 ounce of shot
90 grain setting = 1 1/4 ounce of shot
100 grain setting = 1 3/8 ounce of shot
110 grain setting = 1 1/2 ounce of shot
120 grain setting = 1 5/8 ounce of shot
