The fellow in the pictures is Larry Earley. He lives about 30 miles from Orlando, in the very rural community of Okahumpka, just off the Florida turnpike in Lake County Florida. He has 20 acres of land and ! on it, a few cows and horses. Mostly it's pasture land that is fenced with woods surrounding him. He is neighbored by a larger cattle ranch. His neighbor has complained for several years that wild hogs had been raiding his cattle feeders and salt licks. Last month he saw what he thought was a cow in his pond and went to see if it was stuck in the mud and would have to be pulled out. When he got close enough to realize it was a hog, the thing made a charge at him. He had driven his truck down to the pond and carries a pistol in it (as any Florida redneck would, and I say that with genuine affection). He got his handgun and when it came at him again, he shot it twice and killed it. Wild hogs in Florida usually run from 100-400 pounds with a 400 pounder being a monster. Because this one had been feasting on grain for several years it had grown to mammoth size. When Larry took it to the processor it weighed in at over 1100 pounds! The meat has no wild taste, as it was grain fed! ; and Larry is quite the hero. He has fed many fireman and provi ded the homeless shelter in downtown Orlando with a couple of meals

RE: Very big hog!!!
Hey Mike,
How's is everything going?
I saw a hog once that was easy 450-500 pounds and that thing was huge. Can not imagine seeing one like that.
Here is another one.

You I was actually thinking, if I were out in the woods stalking an elk in the woods and that thing would appear, I am thinking it would scare the crap out of me... I'm not sure I would even take the shot at it - cause I might make it mad - what the heck would you do with a hog that big mad at you... I can not climb trees anymore.
Hope to shoot this weekend - gotta sight in my son-in-laws 270 and I want to shoot this Omegasome more with the .458's. Right now I sure am liking this new Omega. Can not prove that it shoots any better than my Remingtons, but I am hoping with the longer barrel there might be a velocity advantage - can not imagine it will be much though.
That is quite an animal.

RE: Very big hog!!!
I hear you on to shoot or not to shoot. I would want some type of escape route!
Been reading your Omega posts. Sounds like it is coming along. You and Cayugad have both been doing some shootin. I hope to soon.
I'm placing an order for a box of 260 grain partition-hg's and a box of 265 grain a-frames. Getting some sabots from del. I also have a box of win platinum tips. That shoulf keep me busy. also going to loose powder.
Started thinking about the barnes and how they do not expande under the initial firing. Might not engage the rifling all the way and no ribs on the side to grab the sabot. Might be nothing but just thought it might make a diff. I know MANY deer have been killed with the barnes. Guess I'm old school huh? [8D]

RE: Very big hog!!!
I like the photo of the hog in the loader bucket. Needs cinder blocks to hold it up - bucketappears to bebending a little in the middle from the weight. What a load!
I'm not following the comment about the Barnes not engaging the rifling. The only bullet I'm aware of that does engage the rifling upon firing is the powerbelt. I have shot the Barnes Expanders quite a bit and they load/shoot the same as any bullet used in conjunction with a sabot. Kill better than most.

RE: Very big hog!!!
Sorry, was not clear. I'm new to all this but it seems if the bullets expands on firing that the sabot would engage the rifling better, along with the ribs on the side of a bullet. I do not see how a all copper bullet could expand on firing.
I do plan on trying the 250 grain expanders along with the bullets listed in the other post.
Maybe some of you guys can explain this better to me.
The cinder blocks says it all huh?
