Trouble with T/C tech support.
Don't get me wrong they stand by there weapons well but some of the info they give consumers is just plain wrong. I called this morning to see if I could get the exact twist rate for my new .54 Scout and they told me all had 1:48 twist barrels and this I know is just plain wrong. I know this is not the most accurate way to test for twist but I put my cleaning jag all the way down the bore and pulled it up slow watching the T-handle and it turns at least one whole revolution before it comes out the muzzle. I can look through the barrel and follow one land for a revolution as well. These rifles only have a 24" barrel so the info I got was just wrong.
I called last summer to check on the twist rate for the .50 Express and they told me it was also 1:48 twist I later found out that was wrong as well.
I wish I knew what was going on over there and why we can't get better info out of the tech support people.
Because the methode I used to test this I would put the twist rate at between 1:20 and 1:32 but in no way 1:48

Well I always thought the older Scouts were 1-32 twist, but then I never looked into them all that much. You would sure think Thompson Center should know what specifications are on their rifles, even if they are no longer in production.
Is there like a master catalog for all these rifles somewhere?

Way back when they had not been out long I had one with a 1-20 twist.
If you double patch the jag so it will not slip measure 20 inches push it in to where the tape marks 20 inchesmark the tape where the front sight is pull it out the 20 inches if that mark is close to the front sight then you know.Lee

Sadly, his last day is tomorrow, February 28th as he is retiring March 1st after 33 years with TC.
I think the problem is TC's age...the age that is has been becoming for the past few years.....I get the impression it started up with a set of people, most of them have stayed on during their working lifetimes, amassed a huge amount of product experience, etc, but have begunretiring, etc for the last several years...the young, totally inexperienced "counter clerks" don't have a clueabout TC's history, it's importance to the resurgance of muzzleloading interest in America, and they lack an understanding about the real value of Customer Service.
It's going to be interesting to see if the replacement is a corporate man who's forced to meet a monthly profit & loss statement...if so, TC's normal outstanding service will take a back seat.

Pittsburghunter,
When I talked to T/C's Customer Service, they told me that a lot of their records were lost in the fire. The answer they gave you was a generic one the way I figure. I've had very good success using a patched jagto determine the rate of twist. You may have to play with your patch thickness a little to get a good tight fit, but it does work well.
Your .54 Scout is probably a 1-20" twist. T/C never had a 1-32" twist in any of their rifles "that I know of", but CVA and Traditions used this rate.T/C used a 1-38" twist in their Thunderhawks, Firehawks and a few others before they switched to 1-28".
I would love to have a History RecordBook of T/C rifles. You would sure think that aT/C Collector would havethose records.

Pittsburghunter,
Did you give them the serial # of your gun? It is truly a sad day when companies get too big and are bothered by average people looking for a good and accurate answer to their questions. I'm going to have to re-check my SCOUT a couple more timesand see if I come up with a 1-48 twist like they told me 2 times now. Please let all of us know if there truly is an accurate source out there for this valuable type ofinformation.

Codster, that was one of the problems, he insisted every .54 made had a 1:48 twist and frankly being an owner and follower of the Scout line I know he was wrong but that's what his computer said. He even said he owned a couple himself. He also tried to tell me my .50 was a 1:38 twist? LOL what can you do.[]
It's a great manufacturing co but the leadership has gone down hill since the passing of Mr Center. I did some phone work for them like five years ago and they had this ancient Northern Telcom Meridien phone system which probabaly used more $ in electricity to run than the lease on a new switch would cost. They had dead ports everywhere had the maintainance man just hooking up to whatever live ports they had and ring groups that made zero sense. The ACD group for customer service routed through repair then basically back to the operator if one hung on long enough.
I hope to see this turn around I like the company and it treats their employee's very well. Did you know that they have a free cafe and all employee's and guest eat free there all day? Even all drinks are free except soda.
I think my wait time on hold told me two things. Yes they still own that telcom switch and they are having a hard time finding real shooters to man the phones in customer service. I would take that job in a second if it paid enough to cover my bills. The plant is just over a half hour from my home.
