36cal. Rifle ammo?
I just ordered a CVA small game rifle in 36cal. I ordered some roundballs
with the rifle, but they didn't list any conicals foriton their site. I've seen a fewconicals listed for the 32cals, but none for the 36s. Could some of
you kind fellastell me where I might findsome conicals for the 36cal.
I would be much obliged.
Thanks,
B. Smoke

Warren Muzzleloading would have them if they exhist. So would Dixie Gun Works. I know Warren is currently updating and merging their old site because I went there the other day to purchase some items and it was down for updating...

Blown Smoke,
I have very little experience shooting conicals out of my .36cal rifle. I have what I think are some old T/C .36cal Maxi Balls that are 128gr. They shoot "ok" but I prefer shooting .32cal Hornady XTP's. Hornady makes these XTP's (.312dia.)in 60gr./85gr. and 100gr. weights.
I use a MMP sabot with either the 85gr. XTP or 100gr. XTP, and30grs. FFFg powderwith excellent results.

Cayugad,
I went the warren site but I couldn't get it to load either. And I thought like
you Dixie had every thing, well guess not. After miles of searches I found
only three sites that them, and two of them were out of stock. I finialy
got some Buffalo 125gr HP/FB bullets from the possibleshop.
Encoreman,
Could you tell me what the rate of twist your rifle is?
Mine didn't state it on the site, so I won't know till it gets here.
But I'm hoping for at least 1:48"
Many thanks to you both!

If you don't mind casting your own and saving some money and getting another hobby, Dixie has two different molds. The second one is both roundball and conical mold. They say for a revolver but I am not sure it there would be a lot of difference between the two...
The first link is fora hollow based conical. Those are normally for a rifle. Whether they would work in your rifle is hard to say. And the twist most of the small calibers come with is 1-48.I heard somewhere that is like the best all around twist speed for the small calibers.
I personally have been itching to get a .40 caliber Green Mountain Barrel for my Renegade, but promised after the last two barrels I would not get more barrels for a long time. Of course that seldom stops me.
Good luck with your rifle.

I have a couple of friends that shoot 128 gr Maxi's in their Traditions Shenandoahs. They have had excellent results and no messing with patches. They got them from http://blackjackhill.com
