If you are using Pyrodex, either in the loose RS/Select or the pellet form, you should be OK. Other powders; like Triple 7 or Black Mag 3,are too hot for 150 grain charges from what I understand.

Having shot a bunch with three Pyrodex pellet loads, I would strongly recommend youconsiderbacking off on the chargea little unless you are commonly shooting beyond 200 yards. I get exceptional accuracy and 200 yard performance using 130 grains of Pyrodex pellets (two fifties and a thirty) in conjunction with the 250 grain Shockwave. Other shooters on this board get similar performance (2,000 fps) with 110 grains of ffg Triple 7. The 150 grain charges aren't worth the extra wear and tear on the shooter and the gun, IMO. Good luck. Roskoe.

I shoot a T/C Omega .50, and it seems to prefer 90 grains of loose anything. I have settled on 3F for all my loads now. I have only shot pellets at the range once and didn't see any advantage to using them over loose powder.

Here's my results earlier this year with a 460gr. No Excuses, sitting on top of 90 grs. Goex 3F with a wonderwad.

- My first question to your post is, what kind of accuracy (size of the group)are you getting with 150 grains of powder and the Shockwave out of your Wolverine at say 100 yards?

- What's the barrel length on your Wolverine? My rifle only has a 22 inch barrel so shooting anything over 120 grains would be a total waste of powder.

- Are you shooting pellets or loose powder and what kind? Is this load considered a safe load according to your manual?

- What kind of critters are you shooting? And at what distances are you encountering?

All I am getting at is, if the load is consoderedsafe in your rifle, and you're getting good accuracy, you definately know you are not under gunned. If you enjoy the additional cost of that much powder and the recoil from that load, then go ahead and shoot it. Your rifle, your rules. I think you could do better with 120 grain load, but to each their own.

Good luck with your Wolverine.

Depends. What kind of accuracy are you getting? If it is shooting well, it should be OK!

Is this loose or pellet-powder?

I find 120 gr. in pellets to be more consitently accurate at 200 yards& removes any thoughts about flinching from my mind before I squeeze the trigger. 100 grains (2-pellets)is perfect for 150 yard hunting.

150 gr. of loose powder should never be used. No powder manufacturer recommends a load like that with any commom-everyday muzzleloader brand. Please be more specific/thorough asking questionsin your posts. You did not specifyloose or pellet powder.

If your shooting pellets and it has a 22" barrel, I am surprised that you're not getting the flame ball out the end of the barrel. In my 22" Wolverine I shoot 100 grains of loose powder and the rifle does just fine.

Good luck with your rifle.

Buy a box of 30-grain pellets. Even with 130 grains, you will still see 200 yard performance & your shoulder & target paper will like it better.

The ultimate pelletload I heard is really 120 grains. But that's expensive using pellets. It requires all 30-gr pellets using 4. Much better/cheaper to buy loose powder & carry pre-pack cylinders of pre-measured powder charges for hunting.
