First deer with Omega
First off as a new member but long time viewer I want to thank all the regular posters for all the great tips and techniques that helped me shorten the learning curve of the the 50 cal. SS Omega. Bought it new in April /05 and spent the summer trying out different powders-bullets and sabots. Finally settled on the 45 cal. 300 grain Hornady SST with MMP sabots for ease of loading- 100 grains of Triple 7 fff-Remington 209 Kleanbore primers. I was looking for a accurate bullet out to 150 yards. So naturally after over 200 rounds target shooting I shot a real nice 12 point buck at 50 yards in front of my ground blind. Slept in opening day of our muzzleloading season Monday Dec. 5/05 got to stand at 10am-he was following his lady friend at 10.30-one shot middle of right shoulder ran 75 yards before dropping. No exit wound and not a drop of blood until he fell. Still haven't got him skinned out as I was out in a bush camp-really cold weather and it snowed all week-about 4 feet in my part of Ontario Canada. As soon as I figure out how to upload pictures from photobucket.com will post some pictures.

Here is a picture of my buck. Skinned him out today and the 300 grain Hornady 45 cal. SST made a nice hole breaking down his right front shoulder blade. Am impressed by the mimimal meat lost. No I am not one armed--just didnt't realize I was getting my right hand warmed up, and my Omega had already gone back to camp to get warmed up.

Thank you Cayugad and the rest of the regular posters on this great site. It is people like you that really make muzzleloading enjoyable. Wish I had known you back in 1987 when I started in black powder with a Thompson Center White Mountain 50 cal. carbine. Many great hunts with that rifle & it will always have a place in my gun cabinet. Looking forward to learning more great tips so that I will never make another mistake. Wow the prefect man: That should impress the wife.
