well it all depends on the terrain, distances, game, and well your prefernece. If you were primarily hunting whitetail at minimal ranges out to 100 yds or less id suggest a fixed power scope, this good for quik spotting,and wide field of views.next would be a 2.5-10 40mm or 3-9 40mm, theese are both good scopes,personally in my opinion if it was minimal to moderate ranges say 50 yds to 150 id choose a wide field of view such as a 50mm with a adjustable objective. 3-9 50 mm would be perfect. For your price ranges i dont no how much you want to spend but either a tasco or bushnell, maybe a bsa would be good choices for a reliable cheaper priced scope, remember that price doesnt always mean quality. i have a 3-9 40 mm tasco scope on my cva it does fine for my terrain and hunting i do.glad i could be of help.

I have a Nikon 4X12AO on my Encore. When I went to buy a scope my intentions were to go w/ 3X9 and I found this on sale. Really like the ability to turn up the power. I leave it on 4 almost all the time, but when it comes to sizing racks, making sure a doe is not a spike, trying to pick out that patch of fur between the trees, or just getting eyeball to eyeball with that squirrel that has been bugging me, I really like being able to turn up the power. I would'nt go back to a 3X9, but that is just my preference.
