.30-06 for me but like everyone has said they are both great calibers and work on whatever you want. I personally prefer owning both plus a .270 and .243 that way I can choose guns like a golfer does clubs. Right tool for the job always makes it easier.

for pronghorn the best cal is 243.( and good for coyotes) that takes em down great. a 270 is too powerful, I blows a hole right through em. ya lose alot of meat. 308 and 30-06 work great on elk. 243 on deer too.

i personally would take the .308 over the 30-06 because it's lighter in weight. and more compact to carry around the woods.
i also see that everybody is forgetting that the 308 is the 3006's little sister and design from the 30-06.

LittleBowMan,
I dont like the idea of the US military converting the M1 Garand 30-06 to M14 .308.
As far as ammo goe's, you have many more choice's in 30-06, from yotes to moose
and it's a 1000yd round... glad your dad advised you on the 30-06. Plus you can
shoot Saboted bullets....224.
Practice! Practice! Practice!........Makes perfect!
