RE: getting into elk hunting
I think the hoochie mama call is good, but it is not very versitile. I prefer the Hyper lip single. It can make every sound that the hoochie can and more. I called in 7 different bulls opening morning in a heavily hunted colorado unit and shot a large 5X5 all called in with the hyperlip.

I too love the Hoochie Mama, however, you might want to mix it up with another call. I hate to advocate buying 900 different calls, which the advertisers seem to think is the only way to go. But the Hoochie Mama is so perfectly consistent in tone that you sound like a broken record with it after a while. If you have another call to mix into your sequences you can break the Hoochie monotony. (I use my own voice call with the Hoochie.)

hoochie mama IMHO is not a very good call at all, it sounds like a bird, do yourself a favor, check out elknuts as a previous post said, and look into the primos calls, for bugling i would look into the terminator, being new to elkhunting this bugle should be pretty easy to use, then step up to the reeds.
