RE: witch caliber is better for moose?
Are you asking about the 308 Win, and 270 Win????? There's a lot of 308's out there includeing the Norma mag for instance. Same with the 270, you could be talking about the 270 Wby mag???
I feel too many worry about what cal to use for hunting instead of worrying about what "bullet" to use in what ever cal they pick for the size animial they are hunting!!
A 270, 150 grain Nosler partition (or heavier) works pretty good on moose on "side shots", as does 180 grain NP's in a .308!!
Personally, i'd pick a 30-06 over either the 308 Win, or 270 Win..

One of my buddies shoots a 308 with 180 gr Nosler partitions for moose. A couple years ago he shot a bull quartering towards him at about 50 yards. The bullet ended up in the offside rear quarter. If you ask me, that's pretty good.

Either will work if you hit it in the right spot. Moose are not quickly impressed by a bullet. I have seen them just walk off like nothing happened when hit with a 300 Winchester Mag. A friend of mine took a 60 inch bull in Alaska with his Sako 300 Win Mag after the third shot the moose just laid down and it was over. Just place the bullet through the vitals and they won't go far.

I have only killed a couple of moose. One was with a 270 Win and 150gr partition. No reaction at the shot. Walked maybe 20-30 yards, stared at me for about 30 seconds, then fell over. I am sure a 308 would have provided the same results.
