Idaho bear hunt success. Photo.
Saturday was up on the mountain looking for the big black I posted picture of here a couple weeks ago. Did not see the big one but was watching this red bear moving in and out of the bushes for a couple hours. I liked the color on this one and it looked like a nice sized bear so I took it.

Thanks for taking a look, glad you liked the pics.
I ranged him at 305 yards with my Leica 1200. Then bracketed the bear between my 250 and 350 aim points on my 4x14 Leupold vxIII Boone & Crocket reticle.
Hit him right behind the shoulder with a 165gr Nosler Ballistic tip from my H-S Precision .300 win mag(I was surprised to find the bullet went all the way through and exited).
Bear went about 20 yards after the hit which is amazing considering the amount of damage that bullet did to its insides.

That is a beautiful bear!!! Congrats. How do you like that scope???
I am suprised to hear that the bullet went all the way through if hed been closer the bullet probably wouldnt have, i rarely get pass throughs with that bullet on whitetails with an 06.

Thanks carpmaster,
I really like the scope. The aimpoints are great and really work well for my loads.
Scope is very clear.
I think you are right on the bullet performance. At 3400 fps that is too much for a ballistic tip to hold together at close range.
I had anticipated a cross canyon shot of up to 500 yards as I had been to the exact spot a couple weeks before and seen a big bear in there.
I also had some 168gr Barnes loads in my pocket I was going to switch to if I got into closer quarters. Their point of impact was pretty close to the same as the 165 ballistic tips.
