RE: Moose Gun
Thanks for the advice guys my only concern is where we hunt we could have a long shot. one of our guys this year had a approx 280 yard shot at a cow and calf didn' t take it because he wasn' t confident in his 30-06 reaching out that far. Something biggger on the other hand??? who knows

RE: Moose Gun
If you are considering the 340wby you might as well go to the 338ultramag.It provides more performance with cheaper rifles and ammo available. For the average person though the 338 win is a smarter choice due to less recoil. For that matter moose are not hard to kill and the 7mmremmag and 300win mag offer plenty of power for moose hunting.

RE: Moose Gun
My 340 Wby Mag. would be my choice. I push a 250 gr. Barnes X 3060 f/s with 5197 ft/lb. If I do my part with this load, it will shoot .408" @ 100m. If you want a more powerful .338 step up to a .338 A-Square, .338-378 Wby. Mag., .338 Titan, or 338 Excaliber in that order. Good luck.

RE: Moose Gun
When I go moose hunting I usually take my Rem. 7600 pump in .35 whelen. It wears a weaver 2.5 to 7 power scope and I shoot Rem. factory ammo with 250 grain pills.
Quick and handy for fast, close range shooting (with a second shot avalible in a hurry) and adequate for accurate shots out to +200 yards if needed.
Where I hunt moose there are Grizzly bears, so I want to have some thunder and lightning in my hands.
There might be a better moose gun/cartridge out there.
