I have never hunted elk. I recently received word that I drew a Mt. HD 700 rifle cow tag. I chose this district because it looked like it had a lot of public lands mainly the Charles Russel Wildlife Refuge. I had heard that this was a good district around the south edge of Fort Peck Resivore. Now that I know that I have the tag and I am starting to do more research on the internet I am starting to get mixed opinions. Ideally I would like to drive to my hunting area and then hike for the day. I can bring a boat and hunt from the lake but if the weather is nasty I would like to avoid that. The only place that I can find to put a boat is Hell Creek. I only have a 50hp motor so I can't get too far. I'm still excited but worried. If anybody has some opinions on my situation and can point me in a general direction I would be forever greatful. I plan on going to the area in the next couple of weeks to do some early scouting. I live about 150 miles from the Jordan area.
