Yep...Important, and should be a year-round activity. Not only do we all need to shoot as frequently as possible, but from multiple positions and ranges. Touching off a box from a bench a week before opening day won' t do it. Oh yeah, and while I' m at it...You guys that come to elk camp and sight your rifles in in camp right in the middle of your intended hunting area...not good.

Bigbulls,

Looks like I will likely have to spend the rest of my waking hours praticing since I use a variety of different rifles. Oh, well.... life could be worse.

Target acquisition is the most important thing in hunting. Not only does it ensure clean kills, but it also does away with accidental shootings of non-game animals and other hunters.

I shoot my bow year round, I even shoot it at camp during season.
I shoot several rifles year round, 99% of the time I shoot a 223 or 22-250. I only shoot my hunting rifles a couple times a year. I always double check my zero about one month before season starts. If you double check your zero the day before season starts and something is wrong it' s too late to fix it.

Simply put, you should practice all year round. Thats a broad term though.

For me the minimum is about 6 times a year with my rifle. Every other month taking a minimum of 12 shots each outting if everything looks good. If there are problems more shots and sessions may be required. Problems are simply not hitting what you' r aiming at. First 3 shots are from a bench just to check the accuracy of the rifle. Next 3 shots from a prone postion. 3 from sitting or kneeling and 3 from standing. Last session is always a week or 2 from my hunt.

That wasn' t intended toward you or any one else. I was just wanting to point out some of the some of the different types of hunters out there and how well they may or may not know the rifles that they will be using. From what I have gathered about you EKM, I would tend to put you more in the first category with the folks that know their equipment intemately and make sure that everything is always in check.

Using multiple rifles doesn' t necessarily mean that one doesn' t know those rilfles very well and are very proficient with them.

And yeah, your right. There are certainly worse things that one could be doing besides shooting.
