Default Hunting black bear in Arkansas

Im gearing up for my first hunting trip for black bear. Black bear in this area normally range from 150-275 lbs on average. My firearm I'm using is a marlin 336 chambered in 30-30. Since I've never been I figured I'd ask for some advice on here for ammo choices. I've had success dropping deer with the 150g Winchester silvertips but I don't know if they would work good for bear. Any opinions?

Buffalo Bore makes a great 30/30 round. It's around 180 to 190 grains and it is cooking at 2100 feet per second. Just google Buffuloe Bore and you will find their web site.

I've heard of many bears falling to a 30-30 in the Arkansas hills. If you are hunting over a bait or spot and stalk in the woods, you will have no problems with correct shot placement.

And I should have added that all those bears were killed with typical deer loads (150 or 170 gr.)

Your 150's should be just fine. Black Bear are not a difficult animal to kill. Look at some diagrams and learn the vitals and proper shot angles, as they are a different animal than a whitetail. Good luck to you!
