Default CO elk unit 85 the Cuchara ???

Anybody hunt 85 near Cuchara Pass or the lakes? I wanna go scout there for elk next weekend. It's an OTC bull unit for 2nd season. We've fished there and the whole place looks real elky.

I have hunted 083 and 861 and possibly the north end of 085. Lots of elk in the eastern rim area and IMO not as many hunters. I was out there for a vacation just about 5 weeks ago. Got to ride the Rio grande RR from Fort Garland to La Veta and back. We saw a bunch of elk in 3 or 4 herds while on the train.

Most of the land on both sides of the road is part of the old Forbes Trinchera Ranch (private) from the old La Veta pass road west almost to Fort Garland. If you go through La Veta pass headed west and go north on the old LP road you can access some real nice pub lands which has some wilderness designations.
