Pt systems are great IMO. Yes it takes some years to build up some points but if you get a system down with your hunting crew between various states you can go an different trips and species different years. A completely random drawing with no pts could result in you never drawing a tag for that unit so if you think about it pts are a good thing. Also there is alot of good units that only need a few pts to draw and are alot of units that are over the counter and have alot of elk, not alot of big bulls, but with CO and the antler pt restrictions there are alot of 2 and 3 year old bulls running around that make great trophies for begging elk hunters. Heck any elk is a trophy, they are a tough fun hunt and a big animal to put on the ground. WCL

You can still be saving points and still be hunting in Colorado for elk. If you don't draw your first area, you get a point and if you draw your second choice you go elk hunting. Or just buy a over the counter tag.
8 to 11 pts thats only 200 to 275 bucks to go hunt the prime time trophy units and you really only 3 or 4 pts for some other really good units as well. That is cheap. heck your tag alone for out of state is over $550 for even just an ovc unit. For a do it yourself hunt for us here in WI is about 750-800 per person with basic expenses just to go hunt an ovc unit. An extra 200 bucks or so to go run around in a limited tag trophy unit is a pretty dang good deal if you ask me. Wyoming's pts are $50 . It does kind of suck to have to pay nonresident prices for hunting national forest land but what can ya do. It atleast keeps more people out of the mountains exspecially with a low economy. WCL
