Maine Moose Drawing
Has anyone drawn since they went to the bonus
point system? If so how many points did you
have? I've got 4 now and am hoping I have a
chance. Anybody want to go if I draw
I've been up there once but dont remember
the hunt areas well. Any pointers? Oh yeah.
If you put on the application that you dont
want antlerless and you draw an antlerless,
do you lose your bonus points.

RE: Maine Moose Drawing
stickerpt,
i have 2 bonus points i think, but i called and asked the same question. they said if you check no anterless, then you can not be drawn for it. i think the first 250 are for either sex, then the last 50 are for anterless only. so you will not lose your bonus points, if you checked that.
good luck

RE: Maine Moose Drawing
After 2 different answers on losing your
bonus pts, I had to call. The lady said the
whole point of putting the box there was
so you did not lose your bonus points if
you did not want an antlerless tag. JerseyJoe
didn't you get a moose up there a few years back? Quilly the elk part of it is easy. Round up a couple guys who like to elk hunt.
I will volunteer. Pick a state like CO or
Idaho if you dont want to risk not drawing.
Get way back in or just get lucky and you
can get an elk. Or if you dont want to work
your butt off, save up about 3k and go with
a decent guide. Oh yeah. ARO That is one
big ugly hog. How many times did you have to
shoot that thing?

RE: Maine Moose Drawing
stickerpt,
haven't gotten the moose back from the processor yet (for the sausage) but I suspect it will be excellent. My buddy still has all the steaks at his place, but I figure that I will be getting some meat soon. I think it will be tasty.
Elk hunting in CO, MT, ID, I would be more than pleased to do that. Just not for another year. Since I did not get drawn for sheep, I am doing a fly out hunt for about 10 days (I think, hope, at least planning for now.)
Good luck on your moose in Maine.

Yup...Back in 99 I got a 780lb 40in bull..I was co shooter on my friends permit...If I'm ever lucky in getting a permit he gets to shoot.... Here is a quote off the Maine website on losing bonus points..
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quotequote:
The Department awards *one bonus point per year to any applicant for each consecutive, unsuccessful year of entry into the moose drawing. Each point entitles the applicant to one additional chance in the drawing. 1999 was the first year that points were awarded. Starting with the 1998 drawing, if an applicant was not awarded a permit, or was eligible for an antlerless moose permit in 1999 and declined, the applicant accumulated one bonus point. If an any-moose permit is awarded and declined, the bonus points are forfeited. Also, beginning with the 2001 drawing, if an antlerless permit is awarded and declined, the bonus points are forfeited.

take care.....
