Shot this elk opening morning just as the sun came up.
October 15th bugled to locate and then got two bulls bugling to each other on either side of the ridge I was on.
This one stopped at 40 yards just out of sight and bugled 4 or 5 times really loud.
Then I cow called and he walked up the steep slope and I saw his antler tops first and he gradually came into full view at 20 yards. Shot him at 20 yards with 300 win mag and 180gr Nosler Partitions. Exciting stuff!
Backpacked him out about 800 yards straight up to an old blocked logging road and then 3 miles out to my truck. I got some help from others packing after I got it all to the road so wasn' t too bad.
