When you guys are referring to synthetic, what brand or types do you recommend? i am not very familiar with that type of clothing/material.

polypro (under armour type stuff---you can get cheaper brands), fleece (polartec or whatever), and of course wool (which is not synthetic)

Wool is the way to go! Synthetics stink and don't lose the stench. Smartwool or Ibex underlayers are great. Natural fibers thermoregulate better than synthetics ever will.

Lightweight, breatheable rain wear is a must. I use Marmot's Pre-Cip. The stuff is awesome! I also use Gore-Tex Pac-Lite for extra wet and snowy conditions. For general fall conditions I carry A Pre-Cip Jacket and Pac-Lite pants.

If your performance fabrics aren't performing,

A: Washed them in the washing machine.
B: Washed them in a detergent soap
C: Put them in the dryer
D: ALL OF THE ABOVE!

BOOT MYTH #1 High cuff give ankle support. WRONG! Ankle support comes from the sole, the last, the footbed and finally lower leg muscles. High cuffs keep crap out , barely and provide abrasion resistance.
