Elk in Unit 82
Hey, I am new to the site and have found it very interesting.I live and hunt in Texas. I have bow hunted for about ten years now.
A buddy of mine owns property in Colorado, we believe in unit 82, the site is small but it borders 5000 acres of a green belt that as a property owner he can hunt. The property sets at about 9000 feet and we are going to try in 09 to go elk hunting.
We are trying find out anything about the area. Howis the elk herd in that area. approx. number of elk in the area, can we purchase archery elk tags over the counter, bull or cow (we are not picky, maybe that will come later).
Any help will be appreciated!

I have hunted with a couple of buddies in area 83 and scouted area 82 the past 2 years. One buddy owns some land in 83 which allows us to hunt the area which is mostly private. In 2 years the 3 of us have killed 2 cows and 3 bulls. Going back again this year for second season rifle. The first time out we drew first season either sex and it was our first trip for elk so we had plenty to learn. Great area if you can find a place open to hunting. Good luck.

Sounds like we may have a chance, but as far as drawing in that area. Do we have to draw a tag for archery? Or can we get an over the counter tag?
If we can get an over the counter, we will get a bull and a cow tag,

I believe you can get OTC tags for either sex (archery). From what I am told best hunting will be later in the archery season. I haven't tried with a bow yet but might in a year or two.
