Our biggroup has beenhashing it out about how to consolidate our gear for the trip elk hunting CO 1st season and get by taking less vehicles. Doesn't matter now since only one in our group drew a tag. He will probably just get a refund. CO cut tags this year in response to the hard winter (according to the DOW guy I talked to this morning). So there will be that many fewer hunters buying licenses, gear, meals, gas, motels, etc in the state and those enroute.
It won't affect my deer hunting as I hunt the family farm. I wouldn't travel a long way for a lot of things though.
I can see it taking a large toll on states economically. While hunters will still plan their elk, moose, sheep, and other big hunts, I can see a lot of those cancelling plans that require long travels forjust a whitetail or some ducks.

Hunting is my passion so I will do what it takes. I will definitely be more strict about people paying their share of the gas.

liquidorange,
You are very generous to take guests and family members hunting. I do have a few hunting partners, but no guests or family members. You are also very fortunate to live only '40 minutes to local hunting spots.' The 4-6 hour trips I makewill cost $200+ per trip just for gas. That doesn't even count the costs of wear and tear on my truck--assuming I do the driving. I share my expectations long before the trip begins so they aren't shocked that they need to get cash from the ATM while I'm pumping gas. I agree that 'keeping score' can lead to hard feelings, but paying up for everyone else leads the host to hard feelings--and it comes out in the relationship sooner or later. In my view, the easiest way to keep a relationship strong is when both contribute--in all ways. Another way to do it is for me to drive for this trip, and you to drive for the following trip, etc. Best luck in your hunts this fall.

I my fellow hunter have a plan to pay for all of my hunting endevors.
The way I figure the only ones that are going to be hunting are the ones who can afford it.
So my plan is this.
I will drive the FS roads waiting for all you hunters to get out hunting. Then while your gone I will steal your, tents, groceries, generators,Guns, bows, packs,bo ots, even you long underware, take the tires off your campers, snag your cots, sleeping bags, lanters, peel the tin off your motorhomes, pry your hub caps, siphon your fuel, chain saws, rope, tire chains and yes even your fire wood.
I'm gonna haul it all to town and open a outdoors shop and call it "Thrifty's".
I will then turn around and go back in the mountains and pick up all you poor souls who were robbed and give you all a ride back to town in my NEWsherriffs car(for a small fee say $25/head) and take you to the greatest hunting store around and restock you poor hunting fools (you guessed it "Thrifty's) and send you on your way.
Wow!!!! this price off gas is making a guy crazy, hell I'm not even a cop.................hmmmmm I wonder where I can get a cop car?
BTW,this is a joke for all who get it.[8D][8D][8D]
I will drive my 35 miles to the mountains and hunt like I always do.No change here so far.

Oh BTW be wary of the guy with all the garden hose and gas cans in his truck bed.
