Montana Bear Hunting
I' ve been thinking of heading over to montana for a black bear hunt. I' ve been reading their fish and game site. Passed their little test(great info in it too). However what I was/am looking for, is info on a public land hunt. I do not have the means to afford a guide which is why I was thinking of public land.
Anyone know of a source online I can check out, and read up?

That' s strange. I haven' t run across it. Perhaps I overlooked it(happens to me sometimes), however I am not sure.
I' ll dig in deeper, and pay more attention. Thanks for the lead.

being from out of state you have to apply for a license by June 15 ...if i recall correctly. my brother got one in over by hamilton this year, it weighed right around 300 or so. had another walk by us at 40 yards while bow hunting elk in the helena national forest.

did you check out the maps around hamilton and helena national forest. lots of public land and decent access using logging roads. in the spring most of the locals drive the logging roads get to a high point and glass. it sounds like the large majority of them are shot fairly close to the roads.

Not as of yet. Just found the map montana_hunter_16 posted about, that is on their game and fish site.
I believe I' m gonna head over that way this summer, look, and talk to some residents. See if anyone has any opinions.
