HI,
I AM GOING TO BOOK A SPRING BEAR HUNT WITH AN OUTFITTER. I MET A FEW AT AN HUNTING SHOW. BEFORE I SEND MY DEPOSIT MONEY, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IF ANYONE HUNTED WITH OR KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THESE OUTFITTERS.
ANY INFO IS APPRECIATED
DALE MCKINNON----FORT MCMURRAY, ALBERTA
ANDREW LAKE LODGE----NORTH WEST TERRITORIES
THANK YOU

I do live in fort mcmurray and can tell you that we have a large population of black bears.I do not know this outfitter personally but from what I have heard they do provide good facilities and do produce a lot of bears.I would book for the third week of may if it is open as the bears are all out but are not too rubbed up yet .By june the odds of rubbed hides are quite high.I prefer the first two weeks of may myself as the mosquito' s are not out in force yet but a later than normal spring can mean few bears are active until the middle of may.Be prepared for many mosquitos and black flies as they are terrible most years.Study up on judging the size of bears as many people shoot bears that turn out to be much smaller than they thought.Decent bears start at 200lbs and any bear 300lbs or larger is a good bear in the spring.Several are taken each spring in this area that weigh in excess of 500 lbs but they are not common.

Mako, I hunted with for bear with an outfitter out of Maine called Turnpike Ridge Outfitters. I would have been scared to death to book an outfitter because of all the horror stories you hear. My mother' s new husband hunted with this outfitter several times so I went with him. I have to tell you they are one class act. There were 8 in our camp and 6 shot bears, the 7th hit two with no recovery and the 8th guy, well, he was pathetic....sorry. Anyway, the week prior they hunted 8 guys elsewhere and they got 6 of 8 bears. The gentleman name DON that owns it is called MR. Bear....he' s responsible for the taking of more bear than anyone in the US or Canada.... just thought I' d offer you that tip.

Rob-More bear than any other place in the U.S. or canada? We are allowed two bears each in alberta each year and some of the larger outfitters operating in my area take in excess of 100 bears per year.Success rates run around 150 to 175% and some outfitters have close to 100 clients per year. How many bears does Mr. bear take on a yearly basis?

Stubble,
Don' t shoot the messenger....from what I know, Don has hunted/guided/outfitted bear hunters across the US and Canada. He' d done it all his life and he' s not a young man. He didn' t accomplish that feat strictly where he is at the present time. I' m sure you have great outfitters available to you as your suggestions. I' m only offering another alternative for a great bear hunt.
He as an individual is responsible keeping in mind his career as a hunter/guide/outfitter across the US and Canada.
