My gramps gave me a 30 06 in 1985, he said that he thought I could shoot just about anything I wanted to. Since then, I have shot just about everything with it. I put a good redfeild scope on it 10 years ago, and yes I think it"s a great gun for just about anything in NA. I may not shoot at a moose out past200 yards, but I"d take a shoot at anything less than a 100 yards. and have. If I ever get a shot at big foot I"ll take it and post the pics before thay put me in jail...

This is one place I agree 100 percent with what EKM has often said. .22 rimfire, 12 Ga and 30-06. There isn't a better place to start. If you reload you can make even a better claim for the 30-06 as a one rifle for NA. Is it enough for Grizzly? well it's been done many times. Is it to big for small game? Probably but there is head shots. Cheap low power ammo can be hand loaded.

I'm with you, maybe sulkipv had a bad time with a 06 like taking oneto the head and that's is why he dose not like it because he lived lol just kidding I have had a 06 since I was 13 I'm 50 and I just bought a 270wsm i have hunted all the western US and harvested Deer, Elk, Bear, never a problem the only reason I got the new gun is it is so much lighter and is a flat shootin son of a gun

Yep 3006 will do everything you need it to.
It is one of thevery few cals out (out of a huge list)there one gun owner can get, if he wanted to hunt all North American game with managable recoil.

If this is what an '06 can do to a 2,000 lb. animal, using 165 grain bullets, then I'd say it's "good enough".
Get one that fits you well, then stay away from these forums! You might be tempted to try another cartridge, & then you'll just have a b!tch of time trying to justify doing so!
