Yes it is true...The Boars will kill cubs if they get a chance...Mom will chase them up a tree....Big Boars can't climb well. Thats why big Boars will run and run when they are ran by Dogs....especially in Grizzly country...they learn to climb....from young...

Thanks for the kind responses. I'm learning something here. Interesting that there isn't much of a size / age relationship with sows, and that they sometimes remain quite small in maturity.

One final question: Is it true that boars will instinctively kill cubs in order to induce heat in the females?
For the most part yes its true!

In BC there is no emphisis on weight...It is skull size and true squared of the hide.We guess at weight...but don't know....Spring is 150 lbs under fall weight...but they aren't fed donuts like baited operations...

bear size depends a lot on nutrition. I shot a blonde black bear in Idaho a few years ago that weighed in at 138 lb. It was a boar and was 4 years old. (Idaho fish & game pulled a tooth). A 4 yr old bear here in my home state of PA in a good area could probably push 300 lbs.

There is no way in heck you can tell me that bear is of that size! I'm no expert but that bear is not 250lbs+!
