Back from Nebraska
We made it back in one piece with no injuries and coolers full of meat. All the whitetail hunters tagged out with one large 8pt. and the rest 10 and 12 point bucks. My wife got a nice 24" 4x4 mulie with eye gaurds on the last morning of the hunt after turning down several good bucks in the previous days. We made three perfect one to two hour stalks on bucks bedded with does and each time got within 100 yds. undetected. I hunted the last afternoon and after trying for two hours to locate a large buck that we had seen previously, he spotted us first from a place he hadn't been before and he won that game. I got my buffalo though, so we have plenty of meat. The ranch that had the buffalo was in the process of getting rid of them because they are too hard to keep contained on their property. They were in a smaller pasture when we got there but being wild, they spooked and one lit out for wide open spaces going over cattle fences like a tractor. Welooked for it for almost an hour before finding it mixed in with some angus cows. I couldn't get close enough for a brain shot but waited for a perfect angle for a heart shot. A 180 grn. Sierra Game King took out the front left elbow and the heart and the buffalo didn't go 10 yds. We were relieved about that turn of events as they are a massive animal. Wedrove a tractor and a pickup right up to it to load to take to the processor. It wasn't like a deer, elk, or antelope hunt but the fact that they are a big cow and live out in the open and aren't too afraid of humans makes the hunt for them what it is. They are incredibly graceful in a gallop and are impressive to see up close. We'll enjoy the meat for months to come. I'll get pictures up as soon as we can get them downloaded.
