Default For those of you w/ bear in your woods

I'm just wondering if you all do anything special because of the bear in your woods. Do you carry, have bear spray, etc?

I purchased 40 acres back in November and hadn't seen sign of bear (other then an old bating site) until a couple months ago when I started getting bear pictures on my trail camera. I now get about 10 pics a week of bear and recently started getting cub pictures. Now that there are cubs I'm a little concerned about getting between them and momma.

I'm very new to dealing w/ bear and was just wondering what the basics are if you run into one.

Make a lot of noise and you will not surprise a bear. If you are hunting and don't want to make noise, its probably a good idea to have some sort of deterent such as bear spray, or the weapon in your hands in case you stumble onto one. If you are bow hunting I would probably carry another form of protection. I would hate to attempt to stop a charge from an angry sow with just a bow. JMTC.

I have alot of bears in my area ,had one in the yard last sunday, had one knock over the turkey cooker last month and eat the oil . he tryed to carry the big pot away but it was too greasy. I never thought about carring protection . I've been living with them for 45 years and never had a problem.
