270 wsm for elk

RE: 270 wsm for elk
I wasn't comparing the .270 WSM to the .300 WSM recoil, I was comparing the .300 WSM's recoil to the 30-06's, and other standard elk cartridges, like the .338 Win Mag.
From what I hear the .300 WSM kicks like a 30-06, and with a Limb-Saver recoil pad, it would become a plinker.

RE: 270 wsm for elk
man all I can do is sit here and smile at the threads on which gun LOL.
I already shoot a 300 win mag/ and live in colorado and elk hunt. its an awesome gun for elk.
my next rifle will be the 270 wsm. I wouldn't have an issue hunting elk with it.
but the reason I haven't bought the 270 wsm is why ( other then another toy ) cause the 300 win mag does all I want it to from deer/bear/ elk and any other big game.
oh and its a browning with the boss system on it. recoil is not bad at all.
sooo someday I'll go with the 270 wsm....when I need a new toy....it will do you fine.
if you have a 270wsm and want a new toy...go with the 300 win mag

270, not a problem, my first at 180 yards, it went 45 yards over a ravene and dropped.

Rammers right, put the bullet in the right place, and this whole discussion is moot. I have never found anything in North America that wouldn't fall to a well placed 180 grain bullet out of my .30-06. But hit an elk in the hind quarters with a .338 and we will see how good your wind is blood trailing it into the next county. The .270 WSM with any premium higher sectional density bullet, will work great if it shoots accurately out of your rifle.
