Default Unit 34 ?????

I will be hunting for elk in Unit 34 Colorado this year (recomended by a buddy). Does anyone know anything about this unit? Am I wasting time there? Can't afford an outfitter so I will be going out blind. any help is appreciated. Thanks

Did you draw 35 or are you going general bull tag?

34 should be a great area for elk. thats white river ntl forest. Im not sure what season you are going but our neighbor hunts that area by glenwood springs and gets his elk every year during second season. Im going to be in unit 211,23,22,24 this season for muzzleloader cow elk. State wide tag.

JMaster, I would guess during the first week you need to hunt high! They will probably be up close to 10,000' and above. Good luck! I'll be there the next week.

Is this one of the "hard spots" to draw for?

Hunted this area first time 3 years ago in 3rd rifle season with limited sucess. Had a lot of snow and access was hard. Plus having never hunted the area made it hard without some scout time. We did find the herd towards end of season a more snow came in so we packed camp and left. Lots of realy steep/deep canyons where we hunted above hanging lake and above the colorado river. We did manage to shoot a nice 28" mule buck, and passed on several different shots on cow elk. I'd say what someone already stated hunt HIGH early season. Real pretty country though. Plan on spending a day in Glenwoods Hot Springs Pool if time allows, its worth it.
