8mm mauser or 7.62X54 for black bear?
Hi all I drew a permit for fall black bear this fall. This will be my first time and I am going with an experienced friend. My question is this: I customized a couple of old rifles; a Yugo Mauser and a Nagant carbine. Will the 8mm or 7.62X54 rounds be sufficient for use on a Blackie? or should I use this as an excuse to pick up a 45-70 ( one of my fav. rounds) or the old trusty 30-06? Thanks Russ

Use the 45-70 or the 30-06, not that Russky Commie stuff.
If you'll kill bear, use the all-American classic. 8mm Mauser, though, is an American spoil of war, and seems to be a nice cartridge.

Load the 7.62 x 54 up with 180 or 220's. Should have plenty of gun. Plus you have the satisfaction of using a piece of history and not just some off the shelf unit. I had to buy another one after my wife took a Ram from 180 yards, and claimed that rifle.

My mind is definately goin but isn't the 7.62 by 54 the old NATO round? Know to you as the .308.
More than enough for any blackie.
