I would have to say .300 wm . Can be used on many different hunts fromcoyote to moose and just about any bear hunt.

7 Mag has perfect balistics.
The 7 mag is great, the caliber isn't much bigger than a .270 but you have heavier bullet options. It makes a great elk cartridge for that reason.

Hi Riffer, It's not what you shoot,it's how well you shoot it.Beware of the man who owns one gun ,he probably knows how to use it!
This is a perfect example of the ego problem. In the words of the famous and missed BeaverJack "HUNTIN AIN"T BENCH SHOOTIN!"

.338 Win Mag when their disposition is nastier than my mother-in-laws!!!

If I already owned a .270 and wanted to add a "elk" rifle to my gun vault it would be something like a .300 mag, .338 mag, 35 Whelan, .350 mag. The .300 is likely the most versatile choice though.

"....Beware of the man who owns one gun, he probably knows how to use it!"
Different verse....

Beware of the man who owns one gun, odds are very high he will drop out of your group's planned remote/away from home big game trip.

Just my observations over the course of time.
