drs1961,The ML i recently bought is a CVA optime pro. It has a 29" barrel.
Before i bought it i looked at several that ranged from 24" to 29" barrels.
I tried to find out what impact good or bad the barrel length has, I couldn't find any info then. Does the longer barrel improve accuracy or
better powder burn before leaving the barrel.

onebigelk, What caliber and what rate of twist is your rifle? The longer barrel should definately stabilize the large heavy bulletsrequiredbyColorado for elk and maximize powder burn. It should help some on recoil also.

drs1961,
50 cal (minimum requirement for Colordo), 1:28 twist. From what I've read
on other threads on this forum the larger conical bullets are better(lots of
discussinon though on what the best bullet weight and mfr is). Seems like
around 400gr is popular not so much the powerbelts though. I'm still researching this. onebigelk

I don't have 2007 big game brochure in front of me, but I think the GMU
I'm looking at hunting is 78. I'm a little confused on how the unit thing
works. Is all of the state open for ml with the exceptions listed by GMU?
It then lists several GMU's with seperate hunt codes to enter on application. 78 is not listed in either area. Does that mean it can be hunted by ml?

onebigelk, I've shot the .50 cal. Hornady 385 grn. Great Plains bullet out of my 1 in 32 twist barrel with good accuracy. You might want to give them a try. It looks like GMU 78 is listed under the general muzzleloader season code of EM000O1M for a bull elk permit.
