Elk Trip
My 2 brothers and I went on my first elk trip in WY. We didn't draw a bull tag for Area 13 but each got a cow tag. We moved our hunt dates to correspond with the cow opener on Oct 1. We had a great time hunting and camping but, we had joked ahead of time "watch, we'll just see bulls". Well guess what. I saw 9 bulls and no cows. It didn't really matter that we didn't take any meat home (well maybe a little) cause we had a fun trip and it fueled us to hunt again.
The only drawback to the trip, we were hunting in a national forest, was the anti-non resident lecture we got from a local that stopped us on a forest road before season. Wow, did he have an attitude! But, oh well, the world goes around. WE"LL BE BACK!!!

RE: Elk Trip
I had a similar situation this year. Opening morning (cow tag) in the elk only season in Colorado I walked up on four cows and a nice six point bull in a meadow feeding up the mountain. Well the cows took off and the bull just stood there and looked at me for about three or four minutes, all the while I am moving around looking for the cows and he is just staring at me. He finally walked off and got two of the cows and walked back to the spot where he just left. The cows still didn't present a good shot. That would have never in a million years had I had a bull tag. I've never had such a beautiful broadside shot and couldn't take it. I'm glad to hear that you had a good time on your hunt. I'm sure that guy has never hunted anything in any other state before or had a relative or friend come from out of state to hunt with him. Some people are just idiots.

RE: Elk Trip
The reason that we always have excellent opportunities on animals of the opposite sex than the tags were holding is because the Fish and Feather officials treat the tags with an ultraviolet dye that glows pink for a cow tag and blue for a bull tag. The elk know what you're holdin' the whole time. Any body got a better explanation. When in doubt....blame it on the gov't!!!!
Those either sex tags really confuse the elk!!
