I use a Ruger 77 300 WinMag and 180 NP handloads 3100 ft/sec.
I decided on a 300 WM because I wanted something that would shoot out o 300 yards dead on with enough knock down power to handle a bull elk.

I use a Weatherby Mark V Spoter .340 Wby. Mag. with a Pentax Lightseeker II 4-16x44, and250 gr. Barnes XFB's handloads @ 3,062 f/s 5,204 ft/lb. I use it because it is very accurate and has sufficent power. Good luck.

.300 WM Winchester Premium Accubond 180 gr. I find it to be a caliber and ammunition that'll let me with proper shot placement out to 300+ yds. accurately, give an immediate shock to the animal and with good slug weight and expansion go through bone take out lungs/heart and bring them down, usually within 50 yards or less. I've also used the same in "Failsafe" slug effectively.

7mm rem mag with handloaded Barnes TSX 140gr. Why, accurate, superior weight retention for penetration on tough angles, bone or larger game and trajectory gain without comprimising performance. It just works on elk and moose

I like to hunt with my muzzle loader, 80 grains of Pyrodex RS, and a 370 grain T/C Maxi Ball.
Why?
Because here in Nevada there is only one hunt that really falls in the elk rut that you can expect to draw. That is the cow elk muzzle loader hunt. Don't get to shoot at any big bulls, but it sure is nice to be in the woods with the bulls bugling, and everything going crazy. Makes for a fun hunt, and a lot of good looks at some BIG bulls.

Marcial
