RIFLE SUCCESS POLL
There's a similar post in bowhunting and thought it would be interesting to hear about what rifles were being successfully used out there...
What did you shoot?
What did you shoot it with? - calibre, bullet, shot distance
I'll start:
Spring Black Bear, 260 lb - 300 Weatherby Mag - 220gr eagle claw
Muley, 250 lb - 30-06, 180gr powerpoint
Elk, 600 lb (father-in-law's) - 7mag, 170gr powerpoint
I'd rather be out there>>> http://community.webshots.com/user/mtboys

Real proud of yerself, aincha? All worried 'bout "shootin" stuff. How 'bout askin' what animals did you bust yer arse huntin' fer? A rifle is jus' a tool. Takes less 'an a second to kill sumthin'. Fellers like you what make the killin' part the whole sport make me sick. Do us all a favor an' find a sport with a scoreboard.

Good post...ignore the negative comment.
Hunting is something I've been enjoying for nearly 50 yrs. Now with the opportunity to not only enjoy the sport but to do so with my two sons, and for the last three years with my grandson as well, makes it an even more important and enjoyable part of my existance. The whole experience of being out and in touch with nature and the camp life is the biggest part of it. Of course it is always gratifying to be successful and this year was a succuessful one for me....
Spring Gobler, 18.5 lbs. Browning Gold 3 1/2 magnum # 4 shot at 35 yrds.
October Bull Moose, about 900 lbs. Winchester model 70 300 WSM 180 gr. Fail Safe at 175+ yrds.
November Deer, 2 Doe's, one about 100 lbs the other about 130 lbs. Winchester model 70 7mm.08 one standing shot at 110 yds. the other running (loping) at about 50 yrds.

Goodguy - Thanks - that must be great spend some time with your grandsons out there. I've got a 3 month old that I cant wait to bring out! That's a good idea to add the shot details! I'll add mine.
- bear - 22 yards
- muley - 30 yards
- elk - 60 yards
(I'm a bowhunter that just bought his first rifle, so I'm used to being a sneaky little bugger...)
beaver - No **** it's a tool - that's the whole point of the post. There have been many posts about which calibres for different game, so I thought a poll would give guys some good reference. I'm still learning about calibres, so...

RE: RIFLE SUCCESS POLL
This should be interesting! I shot a decent 12 point whitetail 'bout 220 pounds with a 12ga shotgun shooting 1 ounce sabot slugs at 60 yards.

BeaverJack, comments such as yours tend to sway topics to an argumentative stance, and makes threads sway off course. If yer opinions of a thread like this are as you stated, maybe you can keep them to yerself. If you don't have anything to add.....
I managed to take 2 caribou with the rifle this year. One with a .270 and one with a 30-06 and 180 grain bullets.
My brother killed two caribou with my .243 and 100 grain bullets, one from 250 yards and the other from about 100 yards. My buddy killed one with his .300 win mag, his son killed one with a .300 win mag and his brother killed one with a .300 mag (2 different guns) all with 200 grain bullets. Two more were killed with the same .270, my dad killed a hawg with his .358 and his buddy killed two with his 30-06. All in all we took 14 caribou with an assortment of calibers. None lost, no tracking jobs.
Here's four of them. I'm in the middle with my bou, I took the velvet off, and the bottom picture is of me and my dad with his hopefull booner.

Well I reckin' I owe yall an' apology. Jus' in a foul mood, an' I keep seein' the same ol' posts all over. Hunters bein' fixated on guns is a pet peave of mine (case you didn't notice). I'm seein' very lil' meat an' a whole lotta bone here. An' jus' so you know, I don't think a rifle/bullet combination makes any differnce in the world to a hunter. Show me a feller what can drop a bull elk at 300 yards with a scoped 300 WM from a solid rest an' I'll show you a feller what can crap in a toilet an' hit water.

BeaverJack is both on track as well as off track. My gun is also just a tool to take game with. But, even a carpenter has a favorite hammer. To each his own. Keep expressing your rights.
