Default .223

Hi, I'm new to this forum. Just moved from Wisconsin to Ca. Bummer! But I've heard that there are places I can hunt elk in Ca.

I'm wondering if anyone else out there uses .223 for elk, and if it's legal in Ca.?

.223 for elk? That is an oxy moron, the .223 isn't even suitable for deer sized game, let alone the much bigger and more muscular elk, I hope you are joking, because if you arn't you need to do some research. I would prefer a .300 or .338 magnum for elk hunting.

Im not joking, and I know it might sound a little unorthodox, butI just try to getas close as I can and take head shots. My family owns property in colorado, and I have a lot of practice with precisionshooting with a .223.

In that case, its definently possible, but, you should consider maybe getting another, more powerful rifle more suited to elk hunting.

I have tried using a high powered rifle, but it is not as exciting as being able to take an elk with a well placed head shot and iron sights.

Well, while it may not be recommended, you can kill pretty much any game on the planet, with a .223 in the brain, however, I am not sure as to the legality of what you are wanting to do, go to the CA game & fish website, you should be able to find rules and regs there.

Yeah, I get that crap too, because I'm from Arkansas, you get used to it after awhile.

Kids, let this person be a lesson to you. Never marry your first cousin. And that is illegal in CA.
