I think I just found a new Elk Rifle!!!

I think he's citing RUM stats off the Remington site, and Ruger stats off the Hornady site. They have to be different bullet designs with different ballistic coefficients. Otherwise, the RUM would maintain its slight advantage.

I'm pretty sure that the RUM is a round nose soft point.
I called Hornady and they said the case head diameter is the standard belted magnum diameter of .532".
BBJ, Hornady said the guns and ammo for it should be hitting stores early first quarter 2007. Of course that will vary by stores and region I would assume.
Another real benefit of this cartridge is that anyone with an extra300 win mag, 7mm Rem mag, etc... laying aroundand contemplating a .375 should be able to simply change out a barrel with no other modifications needed. Very inexpensive.

The .375 Ruger is a PSP and the .375 RUM is a SP in a 270 gr bullets that could be why there is a diffrence if it is indeed a RN.The 300 gr in the .375 RUM isa bit faster than the 270 gr.The FT/LBS of the 300 gr(in the .375 RUM)@ 300 yds the .375 RUM is @ 2027 FPS and FT/LBS is 2735. and it is a PSP.
Where the 300 gr in the .375 Ruger would be @ 300 yds(RN-FMJ) FT/LBS 2110 and a FPS @ 1780.So the .375 RUM is by far the winner when it comes to pushing the bigger bullets.
BUT!!!
The .375 Ruger out dose the old tried and true .375 H&H.With a 300 gr Sledgehammer in the .375 H&H you get 1738 FT/LBS and FPS @ 1615.(all at 300 yds).
Now I'm basing all of this on the potential of this being a large caliber elk rifle(I know it's not needed)so all my marks are going to be set on 300 yds.
Now Hornady dose make a .375 calbullet in a 225 gr that could realy make this rifle shine as a elk/moose/muscle car round. They also make a 300 BTSP that could make this a clear contender on the African plains animals (but I'm no expert on that).
BBJ
EDIT:
Ipsc: I'm using Hornady for the .375 Ruger,Remington on the .375 RUM and Federal on the 375 H&H.
Thanks Bigbulls for the update,I will put my order in next week with the gun manager at Scheele's.
I find it all so fascinating, hype or not I will be shooting one by summer.

So, if I am reading that right, with a head diameter of .532", that would make the .375 Ruger then a SHORT .375 RUM, as they both have the same head diameter? Seems thats all it is to me.

375 Ruger vs. 375 RUM....
So what is the difference in water capacity (as a measurement method) between the two cartridge casings; therein lies the answer as to which will have the most power.
One great thing about the 375 Ruger though, it is not a magnum (from what I've heard); therefore; folks won't have to fret.

My M-70 375 H&H weighs 11.5 pounds with scope, sling, and 4 rounds.
Not a real significant deal to me, especially when compared to a 35 pound pack.
Ifone is talking "big boy" cartridges, thenone better be talking about some corresponding weight increase in the rifle.
I do have a 6.5 pound 338WinMag, waspy little thing, light as a feather, but hardly one of my favorites.
Saving it for when I get old, weak, and grey.... heaven forbid I become one of those "recoil sensitive" types by then.
