RE: Elk hunting solo tent options?
BGHUNTROO,
I'm going up to Stump Park and hoof it back to Solitary Lake (GMU 26)or I'll go up USFS613 and hoof it back in to Sheep Mtn. (GMU 25). I've been trying to get a hold of the DOW guy who oversees GMU 25, but he doesn't return my calls. I'd like to know which is the better area to cow hunt.
I'll be getting a OTC with a cap cow tag, once I decide on a unit. It's my first trip out and I'm a meat hunter (for the most part) anyway, so a cow tag makes sense to me.
The guy I was planning on hunting with had back surgery last spring and he's got a ways to go before he can hunt again. So I'm on my own, which doesn't exactly thrill my wife.

Sounds like a good plan. Like I said before the Solitary Lake area is beautiful and a great place to camp. I've always wanted to go on a backpack hunt by myself, but I think I just have too many friends who like to go hunting. It would definately motivate you to hunt more and stay out of camp since there wouldn't be anyone to converse with. Have a great time and be careful.
